Why Join Blackhawk as a Company Driver?
Many trucking companies “say” they are different. Blackhawk goes beyond words and demonstrates that it is truly different. Blackhawk has created a company culture that is built around creating a rewarding, meaningful and secure way of life for our drivers. This philosophy has led to a driver rate that is among the highest in the industry. It is also why the majority of new drivers contact Blackhawk after talking to current members of our team.
Blackhawk company drivers enjoy:
- Regular, quality home time – the average work week is five days
- Working within a family oriented atmosphere with a driver-friendly and driver-focused staff. (We know our drivers by names not by numbers.)
- Flexible scheduling – We work with our drivers to accommodate your schedule whether it’s being present for your kid’s football game or taking an older parent to the doctor…you can be there for your family.
- New, well maintained equipment – the average age is under 22 months
- Regional and nationwide freight
- Nationally known customers – We have a broad spectrum of customers including the biggest name such as ABC Supply, Wal-Mart, Lowes, John Deere and others. Our loads are not seasonal so we can keep your busy throughout the year.
- A complete benefits package, including medical, dental, life insurance, paid vacations, paid personal days and more.
- Retirement plans – Blackhawk offers a 401(k) and matches dollar per dollar up to 4% of your total contributions.
- Way of Life – Our drivers enjoy the Blackhawk family and our friendly atmosphere. We have frequent cookouts and parties and take the time to really enjoy and get to know one another. When you become a member of the Blackhawk team, you won’t want to leave.

Our driver-centered culture includes:
- Driver Managers, not Dispatchers/Load Planners: Driver Managers set Blackhawk apart from other trucking companies. Driver Managers oversee a team of 25 drivers and owner operators, and pools of customers. They are responsible for obtaining regular loads for drivers and scheduling routes. Most importantly they are accountable for making sure drivers’ needs and wants are taken care of while he or she is on the road. Driver Managers get answers to questions drivers may have about payroll, scheduling, training … whatever. Like the majority of Blackhawk’s management team, most of our Driver Managers are former drivers, so they understand the needs and concerns of drivers.
- Driver Recognition: Drivers are eligible for special awards and recognition including Driver of the Month, Safe Driving Awards and Annual Safety Awards. We also sponsor parties and cookouts to reinforce the family-feeling at Blackhawk.
- Monthly Driver Meetings: Driver meetings are held monthly at each terminal and drivers are required to attend at least four per year. We believe in sharing company information with our drivers. You’ll know how the company is performing overall, as well as how your Terminal is performing. We also bring in guest speakers to talk about safety, discuss 401(k) plans and other driver-specific issues and encourage our drivers to let us know what topics they would like to see addressed.
- Driver Review Board: Each Blackhawk region has its own Driver Review Board made up of drivers, owner operators and a Terminal Manager. These boards provide input on equipment purchases, new safety programs, training, Owner Operator programs, accident assessments and more. Many companies “say” they use this system; Blackhawk actually does it.
