What Is Dedicated Contract Carriage?

Dedicated contract carriage is a multi-year agreement in which a carrier assigns drivers, tractors and trailers exclusively to one shipper's lanes and runs them to that shipper's schedule. The shipper gets the control and service of a private fleet; the carrier owns the equipment, employs the drivers and carries the compliance, insurance and maintenance.

At Blackhawk a dedicated contract also includes 24/7 dispatch, designated backup drivers, real-time tracking, and monthly reporting against KPIs agreed in the scoping phase.

Dedicated trucking vs the alternatives

Private fleet You own and run it
Dedicated (Blackhawk) Our drivers and equipment, your lanes and schedule
Truckload / brokered Capacity load by load, no assigned drivers
Leasing You still recruit and manage drivers

FAQ

Questions About Dedicated Trucking

What is the difference between dedicated trucking and truckload?+
Dedicated trucking provides assigned drivers and equipment for your lanes and schedule under a contract. Truckload typically provides transportation capacity for individual shipments without permanently assigned drivers.
How long are your contracts?+
Contract terms depend on your operation, lane requirements and equipment commitments. Blackhawk can discuss the appropriate contract duration during the assessment and proposal process.
Do you have team drivers?+
Team drivers may be available for lanes that require shorter transit times or continuous movement. Availability depends on the route, schedule and agreed service requirements.
What KPIs do you report, and how often?+
Reporting may include on-time pickup and delivery, trailer utilization, empty miles, cost per mile, safety and driver retention. Reporting frequency and performance targets are agreed during the scoping phase, with monthly reporting as outlined for dedicated services.
Do you own or lease your equipment?+
Blackhawk's dedicated service uses company-provided equipment. Specific equipment arrangements and availability should be confirmed for your proposed operation.
Do you also offer brokerage for overflow freight?+
Overflow freight requirements can be discussed as part of your transportation plan. Contact Blackhawk to confirm available brokerage services and coverage for your lanes.
Where do you operate?+
Blackhawk operates from its hubs in Beloit, Wisconsin, and Venus, Texas, serving regional territories and dedicated lanes across multiple states. Contact the team to confirm coverage for your specific routes.
